Walkthrough Overview

This walkthrough covers the complete Save Your Cat experience from your first second in-game to the moment you defeat Baron Smog and restore the forest. It is designed to be followed in order — each section builds on the previous one. If you are looking for a specific topic, use the table of contents to jump to the relevant section.

Phase One: First Session

Minutes 1–5 Join a server and watch your Speed counter begin at zero and climb. Do not spend anything yet — this is the observation phase. Notice how the interface is laid out: Speed on the left, the upgrade shop on the right, the map accessible with Tab.

Minutes 5–15 Accumulate your first 100 Seeds and 20 Buttons. Open the upgrade shop with U and review the available Speed Multiplier upgrades. Buy the cheapest tier available — it should cost around 50 Seeds. This is your first investment.

Minutes 15–30 Continue accumulating resources. Buy the next tier of Speed Multiplier as soon as you can afford it. By the end of your first 30-minute session, your Speed should be climbing noticeably faster than when you started, and you should have a clear understanding of which upgrade category you want to focus on next.

Phase Two: Establishing Your Foundation

Sessions 2–5 Over your next several sessions, focus on accumulating enough Seeds and Buttons to max out the first five tiers of Speed Multiplier upgrades. Do not spread resources across other upgrade categories yet — Speed is your only priority during this phase.

When to Rebirth Rebirth for the first time when your Speed reaches 1,000. At this point, you will have a permanent 1.1x multiplier and your next run will start noticeably faster. The first Rebirth is always the most satisfying because it demonstrates the compounding power of the system.

After Your First Rebirth Your second run will feel dramatically faster even before buying any new upgrades. This is your permanent Rebirth multiplier working. Repeat the process: accumulate, buy Speed Multiplier tiers, and prepare for your second Rebirth at Speed 5,000.

Phase Three: Mid-Game Progression

Speed 1,000 to 10,000 Between your second and fifth Rebirth, you will be in the mid-game. Your permanent multiplier is growing, your per-session Speed ceiling is rising, and you are starting to generate Seeds and Buttons at a much faster rate.

During this phase, begin allocating a small portion of Seeds toward forest restoration. Choose one zone — ideally the zone closest to your spawn point — and restore it fully. The passive bonus from the restored zone will accelerate your progression further.

Expanding Your Upgrade Portfolio Once your Speed Multiplier is at tier eight or higher, start purchasing seed generation rate and button drop rate upgrades. These increase the efficiency of your resource economy and create a virtuous cycle: more resources mean faster upgrades mean higher Speed means more resources.

Phase Four: Late Game and the Encounter

Speed 10,000+ Approaching the Baron Smog encounter requires both a high session Speed and a strong permanent Rebirth multiplier. The exact numbers vary, but you should be targeting a session Speed above 10,000 and a Rebirth multiplier of at least 2x before attempting the encounter.

Before entering the encounter, review all your upgrade purchases. Max out every Speed-related upgrade you can. Spend excess Seeds and Buttons on damage amplification upgrades if available.

The Encounter Enter the Baron Smog encounter zone when you are ready. Follow the three-phase structure: break through the outer defenses by maintaining high Speed, disable the three factory nodes in phase two by combining combat and Seed-based restoration, then deal enough damage to Baron Smog in phase three before the 120-second timer expires.

If you fail, do not be discouraged. Return to the main game, Rebirth if your multiplier is due for an increase, buy more upgrades, and try again.

Phase Five: Post-Encounter and Beyond

After Beating Baron Smog Once Baron Smog retreats, the forest begins to restore automatically. You receive a batch of Seeds, Buttons, and a temporary Speed multiplier boost. The narrative arc is complete, but the game continues — new updates will add additional content beyond the current encounter.

Long-Term Goals If you want to continue pushing, target full map restoration across all zones. Each restored zone provides a permanent bonus, and completing the full map triggers the world restoration event with server-wide rewards.

FAQ

How long does a complete walkthrough take? Casual players typically reach the Baron Smog encounter within two to three weeks of regular play. Optimised players who follow the Speed-first strategy can reach it in under a week.

Should I follow the walkthrough in order? The walkthrough is designed to be followed in order because each phase builds on the previous one. However, experienced incremental game players may want to skip directly to the Speed prioritisation strategy and adjust to their own pace.

What is the hardest part of the walkthrough? The Baron Smog encounter is the most challenging single moment in the current game. It requires both high session Speed and a strong Rebirth multiplier. Preparation and upgrade optimisation before entering the encounter are the keys to success.

Is there anything after beating Baron Smog? Yes. The game receives regular updates that add new content beyond the current encounter. Full map restoration, new upgrade tiers, and seasonal events provide long-term goals after the main narrative is complete.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Save Your Cat.

How long should each play session be?

For optimal progression, aim for sessions of at least 30 minutes. Short sessions barely move the needle on your Speed stat. Longer sessions allow your Speed compounding to work effectively.

When should I restore the forest for the first time?

Wait until your Speed Multiplier is at tier five or higher and you have a Seed surplus beyond what your next upgrade costs. Restoration too early slows your Speed progression unnecessarily.

How many Rebirths are needed before the Baron Smog encounter?

At least two Rebirth cycles (a permanent 2x multiplier) are recommended. More Rebirths make the encounter substantially easier by increasing your damage output in phase three.

Does the walkthrough change with game updates?

The core walkthrough structure remains the same, but new upgrade tiers, new zones, and new encounter mechanics may be added with updates. Check the Updates page after each patch for revised guidance.
